Function, Not Fashion - Is it a Croc?
It’s rare that I choose function over fashion, and I’m not so practical that I’d ever resort to wearing traditional Crocs. But I am a style realist (sometimes). I can’t afford cabs and I don’t work out, so if I’m headed somewhere within 20 blocks of my current location, I’m doing it on foot and calling it exercise. And this need for fashionable, functional footwear presents a bigger problem than my penchant for alliteration. Especially when you’re 5′2″ (and a half, but who’s counting). Yes, my Blowfish flats have served me well, but sometimes I want a little height without a lot of pain, goddammit. I found the answer to my daytime-footwear-dilemma in the Croc Cyprus Heel.
Now, I’ve been intrigued by these stylized Crocs for quite some timebut apparently, they’ve been banned from the greater New York Metropolitan area. I don’t shop online because I’m too lazy to go to the post office to return my purchase when it inevitably doesn’t fit/ is damaged/ is a far cry from what it looked like online. I finally found the Cyprus Heels a few days ago at my local South Jersey Macy’s, and me and my calloused feet couldn’t be happier. Are they uber-cute? Not really, but they’re cute enough and more comfortable than the commuters’ shoe of choice (Havaianas). These rubber wonders also allow me to delude myself into thinking I’m 5′5″ and to wear jeans during the day without effing up the hems. Yaay.

Kvelling and Kvetching
I’m intrigued! They look comfy, but I’ve never seen them in person.
I think people would hunt me down and kill me if I bought a pair…
Hmmm, how do we convince the world these are even remotely fashionable?
@ 2:43 pm on July 30th, 2008Ok, you need to post a pic of yourself in these shoes because they look okay in pictures, but I need to see them on a foot. I walk to work every day, and sometimes I wear heels because I can’t bear to ruin my cute outfit w/ flip flops that day. If these shoes look decent on, I might have to cave and buy them.
@ 3:45 pm on July 30th, 2008Omg, I’m an idiot. I just saw your picture at the top. I read your blog through Google Reader, and the pic didn’t load on there. Disregard!
@ 3:46 pm on July 30th, 2008I was wondering if that pair was comfortable.
@ 5:27 pm on July 30th, 2008I refuse to wear crocs. A friend said that I’d probably like their heels, but I’ve been too skeptical to try them.
Thank you for sanctioning these shoes. If CheapJAP can wear them, then I definitely can! Although they are selling for $56 on zappos and I’m not sure I can pay that much for plastic shoes. I hope you got them on sale.
p.s. thanks for answering my mailbag question. I’ll have to send you a photo of what I did with your advice.
@ 12:38 am on July 31st, 2008As much as I’d like to try those (they seem like a decent looking off-duty shoe to substitute the sky high heels I wear everyday)- I can’t. You see, I’ve heartlessly RIPPED on my best friend for wearing the original, elf shoe looking, totally heinous clogs, and I SWORE I would never wear a pair myself. I can’t go back on my word. Semi-cute Crocs or not. I’d never hear the end of it! Sucks to be me..
@ 1:00 pm on August 6th, 2008I finally bought myself a pair of these crocs in the black and silver look. They’re very comfortable, and they don’t look bad at all paired up with jeans, plus they make me 5′7
