Readers, you rock. In part because you’re as confounded by The Hills’ Fashion Epidemic as I am. Some choice comments from a few fabulous, down-to-earth ladies:

So, I’m waiting in the 20-plus person line for the fitting room this evening at Forever 21’s Union Square location, and it’s moving slower than usual. Construction has rendered the downstairs fitting rooms inoperable, but even with only one functioning set of fitting rooms (a frequent occurrence at the chain’s Soho outpost due to the [...]

It should be obvs by now that there’s not much I don’t love about shopping; the thrill of the hunt; the triumph of the score; the fact that my limited budget often results in new dresses cut from old pillowcases; et. al. However, there remains one area of retail in which I cannot claim expertise. [...]

The other day in Jersey, I pulled this oversize knit shirt out of Dad’s closet and saw serious potential (probs because it’s Zegna). When Mom saw what I’d done to it, she bellowed, “Your father still wears that! It’s one of his best summer pieces!” assuming I’d cut it up to make it into [...]

I can’t fully transition from ski bum nonchalance to New York state of mind without one more post on Pip’s Consignment. When I found this striped shirt there, it didn’t look like much to the naked eye. But I had a hunch that its outfit-related versatility would more than make up for it being kind [...]

Vogue’s annual Age Issue (sorry, age (less)…because Fashion’s not totally obsessed with youth or anything…) is the one in which our almighty editrixes ordain what one wears in their 20s, 30s, 40s…you get it. And each year, something happens on the 60s page called Full-Coverage Frump. The 70s page is either missing entirely or more [...]

I’ve never been overly impressed by LC’s or Whitney’s outfits, so when their fifteen minutes netted them near-iconic fashion status in addition to getting them invited to, like, all the coolest parties, I was more than a little perplexed. Yes, they continually carried the latest It bag and always wore what was In, but shopping [...]

On one of my trips to Telluride’s Pip’s Consignment last week, I photographed this item of note:
This $50 flared corduroy number’s funky-fab vibe is similar to McQueen’s plaid miniskirt, except the latter goes for $255 on Bluefly (‘ultimate hook-up’ my ASS).
Okay, okay, McQueen at consignment is obvs cheaper than new McQueen – it’s re-sale, [...]

A short time ago, I snagged an Alice & Olivia dress from Buff Exchange for thirty-six dollars, (NBD). I intentionally omitted the fact that I could barely get the top part buttoned across my ta-tas. Yes. I just said ta-tas.
I figured I’d either duct tape the suckers down, or find something to wear over [...]

Below, see Exhibit A: Two dresses from Alexander McQueen for Target’s latest fashion initiative, Designer Abominations, err, Collaborations.
Design-wise, the Zigzag Print Dress and the Tattoo Print Strapless Dress ain’t half-bad. They’re cute enough that I’d try them on and consider buying them…if they weren’t priced at $69.99 and $79.99. As previously mentioned, in a [...]

Mmkay, so, Target’s obvs made a killing off of their GO International line, what with the dire economic sitch and all. And while I’ve enthusiastically bashed some of its offerings, I can’t knock the line’s concept because 1. It gives emerging designers a chance to establish themselves in the Fashion world and 2. It’s reasonably [...]

A few nights ago, my ski buds and I cruised the town of Telluride on two separate missions. While the dudes debated our dining options, I surveyed the shopping situation. Cowboy-themed garb littered the displays of nearly every storefront; Stetsons, furs, suede fringe boots and sterling silver cuffs seemed the only non-ski gear for [...]

When I decided to go skiing mere weeks after my trip to St. Barth’s with the fam, I figured I’d do enough posts in between runs that no one would be the wiser. I’ve decided to come clean for two reasons:
1. I have a bitch of a guilty conscience.
2. My Housing Works Haulincluded WHITE [...]

I’m not usually a fan of Fair Isle as it’s a bit too Fairfield County for my taste. But when I saw this fitted J. Crew sweater balled up on the floor of Housing Works’ Bag Sale, I thought I’d give the print a second chance.
It fits perfectly, it’s wool but shockingly not [...]

Mmkay, time for me to put my money where my mouth is or whatevs. Among the items culled from Housing Works’ $20 All-You-Can-Stuff Bag Sale were…
…a United Colors of Benetton sweater and an Only Hearts mesh top. Two fab basics, done and done.
The arms of the Only Hearts flare a bit; I layered [...]

Animals are not fabric? Thanks PETA, I don’t give a shit. Real leather lasts longer than any live animal, and we’re killing them anyway for beef, which I don’t even eat – I might as well get something out of the deal. When I snagged that Matrix-esque leather trench from Beacon’s last week, did I [...]

About 90 seconds after I Hopstopped directions to Housing Works’ All-You-Can-Stuff Bag Sale and realized I’d never taken the 7 train, let alone been to Queens, I called my friend Kim. Kim pairs Chanel sunglasses with Dickies pants, lives in the not-yet-gentrified Bed Stuy, manages to introduce me to new music/art/thrift stores et. al [...]

Anecdotal evidence of my excessive scarf-wearing:
This past spring at the Union Square farmer’s market, I was scolded by an elderly witch of a vendor for donning a pink pashmina. As my BFF Lucy and I browsed her heirloom tomatoes, she squawked, “What’s that on your neck? Aren’t you hot?” I answered “A scarf,” “No,” [...]

If the Housing Works All You Can Stuff Bag Sale was located in Manhattan, I’d probs approach it with a mix of trepidation and skepticism a la Barney’s Scarehouse Sale. I mean, it’s a whopping twenty dollars for as much clothing as you can stuff into a canvas shopping bag. Add frenzied, impatient Big Apple [...]
