Seasonal, Schmeasonal: Nautical Stripes

12:38 PM Wednesday, January 7, 2009

aaskirt1 (…and the American Apparel obsession continues…)
I felt a little silly buying this striped skirt number; I’d wear it in St. Barth’s, then it wouldn’t see the sun again till June. Alas, unlike my Resortwear-clad counterparts, I didn’t have an arsenal of $500 dresses to don for Caribbean dining – a $35 skirt couldn’t hurt. Added bonus: Free-moving enough that I was almost able to mimic my little bro’s dance moves. Almost.

Post-trip, I discovered that American Apparel’s Spandex Jersey High-Waist Skirt doesn’t just look fab four different ways goldleg2 (though I’d advise against wearing it as a minidress sans leggings or pants… unless you’re posing for an AA ad campaign); it’s an easy addition to cold weather dress-up essentials like tights and cardies too!

I paired my warm-weather purchase with a Ralph Lauren golf sweater, (courtesy Mommy’s Closet), a Theory cami (on loan from my BFF Lucy in exchange for my beige Theory tank), black tights (Tar-jay, baby), and STEVEN by Steve Madden booties.

Summer to winter in two shakes of a lamb’s tail. Niiiice.

Brill. Love it completely, and if I had your figure, I’d totally copy you.

Thanks for confirming I haven’t been making huge fashion faux pas with the minidress plus tights look! (posted here) Unfortunately I don’t have the awesome booties, but in my West Coast version I wore sandals. I think your CheapJAPness is rubbing off… keep the awesome finds coming!

Super cute! I have 3 of those skirts and couldn’t think (didn’t think) of how to wear them in the winter. Good idea!

Hello. I just wanted to say that I’m a newcomer to your site and I love it. I have a few questions for you.
    1. Why is it so important to look laoded?
    2. What of the benefits of looking loaded?
    3. Do you believe that’s its possible to look loaded without rocking designer labels?

I know that this may be a tall but I truly appreciate any time you put into replying to my questions.

    Thanks so much,
    IMAN

Hehe I have that skirt too and have been debating whether to brave the minidress look or not. Maybe at a club on an extremely not windy day, but never otherwise. Why must AA always deceive us with false hopes of ultra-short skirts being acceptable in public?
