I usually make it a point NOT to discuss celebutard fashion, as most famous floozies swag their way to a kind of materialistic excess that actually necessitates the aid of stylists. ‘Help! I have so much stuff, I can’t even dress myself!’ Bitches. However, I happily concede that, where personal style’s concerned, some stars got it goin’ on. By “It” I mean an air of I’m-wearing-whatever-the-fuck-I-want-
so-take-your-Worst-Dressed-page-and-shove-it-ness.

You know who I’m talking about; Gwen Stefani’s Harajuku hotness; Chloe Sevigny’s I-eat-hipsters-for-breakfast ‘tude; Tilda Swinton’s tendency to dress around her hair, Sienna Miller’s hangover chic, Kate Moss’s everything-I-touch-turns-to-cool. But for me, all those famous faces who’ve ever dared to dress themselves still can’t hold a candle to MK & A.
I don’t mean the MK & A who get dolled up for the Met or whatever. I mean post-nineties flannel. I’m talking about ripped tights, fur in summer, bandannas, shorts all year round and forgetting to brush your hair. It’s as if Mary Kate woke up one day and said, “Fuck this. I’m wearing whatever’s on my floor and the paparazzi can suck it,” and Ashley followed suit. Whether or not MK & A intended the Bobo Chic movement born out of their haphazard approach to fashion is irrelevant; what matters is that if I get a hole in my tights, I don’t sweat it because the Olsen twins say it’s no biggie. What matters is that if I want to wear a new pair of pants before they’re hemmed, I let ‘em drag. It’s not the duo’s ashcan look that I’m inspired by (bitch please, I’m no hipster); it’s their ability to seemingly get dressed without any regard for trends, brands, critics et. al. They do it with full knowledge that the gossip-obsessed world will balk; what’s to stop us regular gals from doing the same?
MK & A might not be the best examples of eating right or finishing college. But where fashion’s concerned, they say Eff Off louder and clearer than any of their peers, and that’s something worth admiring. They got it, dude.

I love Mary Kate and Ashley, especially Ashley. What are your thoughts on their respective fashion lines?
