What up dollfaces,

Before we commence with the material goody-related posting, a more detailed explanation for last week’s absence is in order. The initial purpose of the break was to work on other Cheap JAPtastic projects – projects of the stress-me-the-eff-out ilk.

Stress isn’t usually cause for one’s body to attack itself, but throw a really fun intestinal disorder into the mix and it’s a different ballgame. (All you healthy peeps can skip to the next paragraph here, NBD). Crohn’s Disease is a bitch to live with and it’s an even bigger bitch to diagnose. My feeling is, a brief kvetch-about-my-irritable-bowel-disorder aside that results in helping one person with mysterious stomach pains feel a little better is an aside worth writing. So, if you’ve ever had any of the following uber-embarrASSing symptoms (har har), call 888.MY.GUT.PAIN and have a chat with one of CCFA’s licensed health professionals. (Also: If you’re currently being treated for Crohn’s and/or Colitis and you’re still feeling shitty, email your health deets to me at cheapjap@gmail.com; I’ll make it my biznass to respond with doctor recs).

Long story long, last week’s projects prompted a bout of stress, which in turn prompted some grossness ALL OVER MY FACE. Think cold sores, but horror film-esque. The term leper comes to mind. Vanity mandated not leaving my apartment; my GI doc had other ideas, like a long subway ride to Mt. Sinai during which I frightened many small children. He diagnosed the crap on my lip as facial ulcers (awesome), prescribed the appropriate meds, and released me back onto the streets of the Upper East Side. Staying out in public meant traumatizing more urban kiddies, so I considered bee-lining for home. Then I remembered scaring small children is one of my fave things EVA, so I strapped on a pair, toured some of the area’s thrift stores, and happened upon an uber-fab score. Like, fab to the point of making me forget about my leperface, which was a gift in and of itself.

Stay tuned for the deets on the spirit-lifter (and on the general awesomeness of Arthritis Thrift Shop. Gold, I tell you. GOLD.)

I feel your pain (literally). Long time sufferer and recent diagnosee of IBS, it’s embarrassing and painful. Also, not fun. I’m so glad you’re back & healing up from your recent flare up. Love your blog.

Aw, your week sounds really tough, sorry you had to deal with that. Glad to see you back posting, and can’t wait to see your uplifting score ;)

My favorite cousin has crohns disease and they had him on uber amounts of steroids and stuff and he was like 4 ft tall. Then it turns out that he’s just allergic to pretty much everything and that’s why his intestines were freaking out.
He now only eats yogurt, meat, veggies and fruits and now he’s 6′4″ and HUGE. But even though I’ve never had it (knock on wood) I feel you, it’s a bitch to live with.

i’m procrastinating from studying for my gastrointestinal exam on friday by reading your blog and then i see this- which must be a sign that i should be studying so i can be a good doctor- am so sorry to hear about your auto immune thingies- ibd is a serious matter and it takes many years for some people to get diagnosed and its great that you live in nyc, b/c mount sinai is like the absolute bestest w/ ibd and crohns specifically probably in the country. i think the retail therapy and some pampering for yourself are in order esp after a flair!

  9. Rachel

So happy to see that you’re back! Feel better!

Glad you are better, I love this blog! And as a longtime thriftshopper and person with crohns I have 2 things to say: just make sure you know where the nearest br is at all of your fav thrifts (not all thrifts have br’s) and always take your meds, even if you are feeling better.

OMg- missed you terribly, and totally feel your pain, literally, in my gut too. Can’t wait to read more!

Hi, I just started reading your blog recently. I am really enjoying it. I hope you are feeling better and the last week must have been hard. I have IBS and found for me the avoidance of some foods does help. Crohn’s though is really tough to deal with. Hand in there, hopefully you will have a long remission this time! Take care!

Missed you much! Glad you’re back and feeling better! I totally feel your pain, I’ve had tummy issues since high school and law school did nothing to help :( I feel like so many people suffer from IBS and other related issues yet nobody talks about it (not like it’s something you actually WANT to talk about!) Hope you’re getting it under control and feeling better!

Like everyone’s already said.. I missed you as well this week! I’m so sorry about your health. It’s amazing how many things have to be going right in our bodies to stay well. My best friend has Crohn’s and all throughout middle and high school I was there helping her through it.. so while it wasn’t me, I do know what you are going through. It will get better…ups and downs. Just stay positive.

Oy! My heart goes out to you. Is it any comfort that Crohn’s is the Jewiest of all stomach ailments? You got plenty of suffering brothers and sisters in the Tribe.

    Feel better soon!!!
