How To Cinch an Oversized Top (Sans Sewing)

The Vera Wang Lavender Label three-quarter-length tee snagged at Housing Works’ latest and greatest $20 All-You-Can-Stuff Bag Sale was a size XL, and a stretched out, broken-in one at that. On me, it wasn’t just unflattering; it bore striking resemblance to a cropped muumuu.

This obvs made it the perfect candidate for some serious scissoring action. I sliced it up the middle and trimmed around the back, leaving two tie-like strips of material long in front. The blue-themed tie-dye was begging for an off-shoulder neckline, so I trimmed it into a V of sorts. Lastly, I shortened the three-quarter length sleeves, as leaving their hems in tact would have compromised that Hey-I-Made-This-Shirt look I was going for.

Aaand voila!

Just kidding. It still looks like hell because it’s not tied yet, sillies. Witness the magic of the homemade wrap top:

Crisscross ties in front, secure into knot in back, and roll/bunch sleeves a la Danny Zuko in Grease.

Good times.
