Tools For Your DIY Arsenal

My first attempt at DIY destroyed denim resulted in two things: A damaged ottoman, and the gift of the damage-causing creation to my mother as penance. I fully intended on slicing up another pair for my own personal use with my Stanley Utility knife. I arrived back in New York after my weekend in Jersey, deemed my gray straight-leg J Brands ($22 at Buffalo Exchange, BAH!) ripe for shredding, and realized the knife hadn’t made it into my overnight bag. Bollacks.

That very evening, I unintentionally discovered an alternative whilst opening a bottle of wine with my waiter corkscrew (I’m old school like that).

The corkscrew’s serrated blade is traditionally used for removing a bottle’s foil capsule. It’s Ah Ha! use?

Shredding a pair of jeans. The corkscrew proved even more effective than the uber sharp utility knife, as no laundry cycle was required to achieve a destroyed look: The serrated blade did it in one fell slice.

Instant gratification alert!
