This is an Alice & Olivia Party Dress.
It has a lot of sequins. It gets worn once or twice a year. It costs $440.00.
It is, heretofore, an idiotic purchase.
A party dress is kinda like a going-out top that way: It sits in your closet, collecting guilt, reminding you of what a moron you were to justify such frivolity. (I’m talking to myself as much as you here, btdubs. We’ve all done it. Egads.)
It’s taken me years to realize the following: A semi-basic dress (read: not a sequin explosion) can be jazzed it into evening garb OR subdued it into daytime wear.
Some might consider a dress of this ilk an investment piece; it’s day/night appropriate; it’s like getting a two-for-one-deal; it’s totally okay to blow my checking account balance on it, right?
Fuck no. This is why we hunt for fab brands like Alice & Olivia at resale shops – so we can get a versatile, practical, well-made dress for a faction of its ripoff, err, retail cost.

Golf claps for Beacon’s, as per usual.

Don’t get me wrong; this is a great find and I love your blog. But I thought Beacon’s Closet was supposed to be a thrift store. I realize that its in NYC and quite organized, but thrift is NOT a $35 dress! Thrift is $15 and below dresses! Most of what is “thrift” in NYC is more like consignment, but donated.
Dizzam, that’s a steal! I wish we had Beacon’s Closet here in LA.
You are, and always will be, the thrifting queen.
Golf claps indeed. Plus a round of air guitar from me.
Wow, I love! But I have to agree with KD, it may be extremely cheap compared to the original, but it still isn’t exactly super cheap.
What brand is the dress you got from Beacons? Is it Alice and Olivia?
Random question for you- I got the Eloise reversible tanks from Anthropologie, as you recommended, and I love them! I wear them ALL the time. I’m in the market for some good basic long sleeved tees, (preferably thin, soft, to wear under things) and wondering if you have a recommendation.
