Upon learning of the convertible wrap dress phenomenon last year, I heard a little voice in my head. It told me this was a versatile, quality item, an investment piece to be splurged on, one I’d wear 24/7, one that’d be super fun to experiment with (I mean, 24 different ways to wear the thing! Oh, the possibilities…)… and somehow managed to ignore it. (Chanting I-do-not-need-it-I-do-not-need-it-I-might-want-it-but-I-do-not-need-it to oneself over and over again helps in times like these).
Willpower, it seems, is a karmic mystery: Exercise it sans expecting anything in return, and ye shall be rewarded accordingly.

This dress is so boundless, it comes with an instructional video! After I inevitably master all twenty-four wrap techniques, I plan on inventing a few more of my own (all of which will involve shortening sans scissoring. Shocking, I know.)
Stay tuned for visuals. Eek!

I don’t much like jersey dresses and so I’ve never been interested in those multi-wrap dresses but NOW that you
have showed me one in stripes, now it seems like a great idea.
Wow. Major score! I’ve haunted their sample sales and not seen those dresses for less than about $175. (Stingy sales!) Still not sure how I’d wear those without a bra or a boob lift, but congrats!!
AHHH! that’s incredible. Kudos, I’m soo jealous!
OMG!!! I am so happy for you. I managed to snag a new one on clearance off a website for $100, in black satin with a butterfly hem… but your bargain definitely beats it! I can’t wait to see that you come up with to do with this!
PICTURES, please!!!
Ahh, lucky, lucky you, I have been drooling over the red-and-white-striped version since last Spring! Wonderful bargain hunting
Hey I love your website! Short story before I comment on your post.
When a Buffalo Exchange finally opened nearby, my inner self did a little happy dance. Thanks to your site I scored a small Botkier Rose Sasha satchel for $43! I was looking at the bag online the day before and really, really, considered getting it as my first expensive (more than $50) bag. I loved the bag but didn’t get it because it wasn’t an everyday neutral color. Life got in the way and I couldn’t go back for another two months, but for those two months I kept thinking, “Man, it shouldn’t matter if it’s not a “fall” color, I would’ve worn it anyway because I love it, but it’s probably gone by now”. So, cue my surprise when I walked in and there it was, stuffed with a plastic bag and displayed in the most ugliest way possible. I then thought, “Ok, shit, this must be fate”. I bought it right away and have been wearing it out ever since. Thank you!!!
Now onto the post, congratulations on scoring the dress! Before I saw the amount you paid for it, I really thought that this might have been a boo boo purchase because there are so many tutorials on craft and sewing forums on how to make this really easy to sew dress. The only real cost in making it is for all the fabric since it’s just a skirt with two really long straps. But you got it for close to the price of just the materials congrats! If you ever decide to take up sewing though, you could make a bunch more of the dress in different colors if you really wanted to with longer or shorter straps/skirt length.
Thanks for the great blogs!
Norma Kamali at WalMart has something similar, it’s like $20. It doesn’t show as many options, but I’m sure you ladies will find rockin ways to wear it
That’s actually a ‘Fanny’ from SS09. Also, contrary to catherine’s comment, at the last sample sale we were selling some of the printed wraps for $35.
