Kaight Boutique Makes Green Look Good

Spoiled children like myself are often raised on boutique shopping. This becomes a problem when they grow up and have to buy their own clothes.

I tend to abstain from browsing stores of this tempting ilk – I’m not about to risk a nostalgic episode that undoes my current budget shopping skillz. Unless the store in question is the Lower East Side’s much-lauded Kaight.

Kaight markets itself as a purveyor of “smart, ethical and eco-friendly clothing and accessories” – the store is a mix of upcycled leather, recycled plastic, organic cottons and fair-trade materials. The catch, though, is that everything’s as stylish and luxe as a legit JAPtastic boutique (see Scoop, Searle or Intermix, obvs) with a bonus of being slightly more original.

Shopping cheap has made me a tough customer, particularly in places where the average price point is significantly higher than what’s reasonable for my budget. But the store’s relaxing atmosphere and unobtrusive staff coupled with its thoughtfully selected merch more than won me over – I wanted one of everything I saw, prices be damned. Green chic never looked so good.

After browsing to my heart’s content, I settled on a pair of Melissa Plastic Dreams ($99).

Height+comfort+kickass style+made from recycled plastic?! SOLD.

If you’ve got equally sound self-control, check out the store in-person or online.

‘Tis a feast for the eco-conscious eyes.
