I found a charming little consignment shop in Woodstock, VT en route home from my friend’s wedding weekend. Said shop affirmed what I already knew to be true of secondhand stores: The best stuff is off the beaten path (i.e. NOT IN NEW YORK, so no more gaff about your respective non-NYC thrift scenes sucking [...]

My Bag Sale Booty prompted a slew of thrift-related questions; questions I’ve been asked before on numerous occasions; questions that, for me, should be easy enough to answer. On June 12th @ 9:51 AM, Sarah wrote:
When I go thrifting, I am often overwhelmed by the bad smell, and by my lack of knowledge of how, [...]

When earlier today we discussed Monk, I omitted the fact that the hunting portion of my trip took a solid hour. The time spent paid off (and BIG), but that’s not always the case. If you can’t immediately size up the kind of secondhand store you’re in, your chances of leaving empty-handed increase exponentially. This [...]

The term ‘Thrift’ takes on new meaning in the East Village, so allow me to briefly differentiate between real thrift and quotation-embedded ‘Thrift’. The former has been worn at least once. The latter has not. Stores like Cadillac’s Castle masquerade under the former notion when most of their merch falls in the latter category. So [...]

On one of my trips to Telluride’s Pip’s Consignment last week, I photographed this item of note:

Okay, okay, McQueen at consignment is obvs cheaper than new McQueen – it’s re-sale, [...]

A few nights ago, my ski buds and I cruised the town of Telluride on two separate missions. While the dudes debated our dining options, I surveyed the shopping situation. Cowboy-themed garb littered the displays of nearly every storefront; Stetsons, furs, suede fringe boots and sterling silver cuffs seemed the only non-ski gear for [...]

Where JAPtastic denim is concerned, I’ve come a long way, baby. I’ve put to rest the inevitable shame of wearing Forever 21 high-waisted jeans; I’ve even come to enjoy the freedom of denim experimentation encouraged by not spending $200 on every pair. I’m not above secondhand Sevens, I’m no longer starved for Rich and [...]

It’s rare that I find myself thinking things like, “This $150 raincoat is a serious find. I don’t need a raincoat right now, but I will someday, and I’ll regret not buying this one when that day comes.” But when the raincoat in question is a fitted, shiny, navy-and-creme-striped Marc Jacobs, you stop thinking straight.
