City Opera Thrift Shop Makes You Wanna SING!

As previously mentioned, Krip and I hit another thrift store after her Cheap JAPtastic conversion last week. I don’t know why City Opera Thrift Shop wasn’t on my radar before – I was a fanatic upon minutes of entering the place.

While the prices weren’t as thriftastic as Beacon’s or Buff Exchange, they weren’t nearly as offensive as legit Vintage or high-end Consignment; not much under $30, not much over $100. I might even opt for it over Tokio 7 for mini-splurgy poos. The layout resembled more of a boutique than a Goodwill – dignified atmosphere, racks arranged by color, sizable dressing rooms, and a staffer periodically belting along with the operatic background music (loves it!).

Krip was equally enthused, and picked out almost everything she tried on all by herself! Everything except the dress pictured, that is; it looked kind of meh on the hanger, but I’ve got an eye for this shiznat. To watch her step out of the fitting room in it was to witness what clothes are, ideally, supposed to do. Sometimes all it takes to get in touch with the most confident, poised and beautiful parts of ourselves is an effing awesome dress.

On the price of said effing awesome dress: Generally speaking, my mom has a knack for picking out the most expensive item in any given store. This has little to do with her knowledge of brands; it’s simply her sixth sense. She’s drawn to the highest of the high-end by some inexplicable force. When shopping retail, this tendency obvs has serious monetary consequences. When shopping re-sale, it’s a secret weapon – one I’m proud to have inherited.

Neither Krip nor I had heard of Rebecca Thompson before we found this dress, so I did some post-shopping Googling from whence I discovered the exclusive Aussie designer’s dresses sell for, on average, $400 or so. Yiiiiiikes.

Thankfully, my nose for the high-end didn’t cost Krip nearly as much. City Opera Thrift Shop only charged her $35.

MAN! I’m tired of being right. ;)
