The Fourteen Dollar Difference Between Vintage and Thrifted Tees

I pass by Hamlet’s Vintage on Bleecker multiple times a day, as it’s a hop, skip and a jump away from my apartment. The store pimps itself out to locals and tourists alike via a $15 T-Shirt Rack on the sidewalk. The tees are standard secondhand fare i.e. something Urban Outfitters would copy and sell for ten bucks more; admittedly, I’ve been tempted by them on more than one occasion. Why then, have I never purchased one? Because I suspected I could find something similar at a thrift store for a whole lot less.

Said suspicion was confirmed when I snagged these puppies at Salvation army for ninety-nine cents each. Two shirts for two bucks? Yes please.

A big fat shout out to the Hell’s Kitchen Salvation Army for affirming my hunch, and for imbuing me with high school nostalgia via Can’t Hardly Wait‘s fictitious band.

An authentic Loveburger shirt?!

My life is officially complete.

  • HA, I must have watched Can’t Hardly Wait about two dozen times when I was in 8th grade. I can’t believe there are actual Loveburger shirt out there in circulation, how hilarious :)

I follow your site all the time, and as a fellow jap in fashion I love how creative you are with mixing and layering your pieces all at a very low cost.I spent three months in ny during the spring for an internship and Hamlet’s was a place I would frequent every Saturday on my way to brunch. He’s got tons of amazing boots and dresses, some are pricey but I’m sure you can snag a bargain.

  • Those Firenze shirts are all over the markets in Florence, I have one too. They were a steal at about 6$ each! Great for gifts! Nice find!

  • Wow, that is major wickedness!

I love your blog, but after reading your SArmy tale, I really, really love it!

I try to visit SA on “Wacky Wednesdays”, aka half price day. I’d be “preachin’ to the choir” if I told you all the many fab finds I’ve scored. In fact, it’s cooling in Florida so now I’ll start wearing pieces from my cashmere collection; all pieces bought for $2.50 or less.

    Thx for the inspirations.

p.s. You always look great in the pix!
