Vintage Fedora Def Not a Mistake

Once I read a story about a butterfly in the subway, and today, I saw one. It got on at 42nd, and off at 59th, where, I assume it was going to Bloomingdales to buy a hat that will turn out to be a mistake – as almost all hats are.

Months ago, I didn’t see a butterfly on the subway a la You’ve Got Mail: I did, however, discover an exception to the rule of hats. I was visiting a buddy in D.C. at the time, and dragged him to a vintage shop (the name of which totally escapes me) where I found a phenomenal, Mad Men-esque felt fedora.

Vintage Cavanagh Felt Fedoras usually sell for around $80. Mine was $35, but you already saw that coming.

The purchase/posting time lapse can be attributed to the fact that the thing hasn’t left my head since I bought it. It goes with everything, including the magnificent Tashkent by Cheyenne Boots recently snagged at Buff Exchange for $145 (originally upwards of $600).

The boots are so comfortable, they can be worn BAREFOOT. And the hat tends to result in absurd, squinty-eyed faces reminiscent of one feigning edginess.

See-Through Tank, $24.00 @ American Apparel; Ralph Lauren striped boatneck tank, $11ish @ Buffalo Exchange; no-name high-waist jean shorts, $7.00 @ Goodwill.

Gently-worn is my Graceland.
